"Men get laid, but women got screwed"-Quentin Crisp
It's ironic how much a quote can resemble reality, even after women declare their emancipation. In the dawn of today's shocking headlines of Arnold Schwarzenegger's adulterous love child, it's such a heinous image for strong woman to be betrayed and screwed over by their own loved ones. Maria Shriver, Schwarzenegger's estranged wife put herself through an endless campaign trail for her husband's position as governor of California state and in the end, she got herself a bundle of joy, but this time around, it's not hers but what comes as the greatest betrayal a woman could have, an adulterous love child.
It dawns on me, as I began to wonder, how many women have gone through the aching heartbreaks of being scorned; more importantly, how many more will it be?
Here it is, the unspoken truth, the final hit on reality, that in this modern era, such thing as Cinderella like fairytale where Prince Charming does exist is nowhere to be found. When the clock strikes twelve, men leave their wives for younger mistress, dancing around as they celebrate their alpha male power. There's no such thing as happily ever after, there's only happily now but not forever for women, and happily now with you and the other for men. Women don't have an affair to remember, what they have is my husband's affair to remember.
Ironically speaking, when we talk about scorned women, we're looking at a list of women who have powerful and admirable husbands. Before the scandal erupts, we always picture them as the guy you take home to meet your parents, with two things everyone seemingly wants nowadays, job security and power to earn more from it. Who can ever forgot about Clinton's White House drama; how Hilary stood by him, through all the mobs of women claiming that they have a night to remember with her husband? Those pains and shames she had to go through was responded with "I think I did it because I could" statement?
Women are there, because they care enough not to run away when things go sour. It's not because they can't, but they realize the importance of their obligation to fight for it till the end. For women, love is a fight that you will be there till the last bell rings. It's not that women is a masochist (eventhough some are), but it's their strength that men shouldn't forget about.
Yes, everyday women are scorned, getting their hearts broken. However, it's what became of them is what matters. Rising up from the pieces, we root for women to stand up and take a look at herself and said, "freeing myself is an option, but staying till the finish line is out of question"
Whether it is Tiger Wood, Elliot Spitzer, or any men out there, women know that being scorned or not, is a chance they have to take in the name of so-called love, but it's them rising above anything is what earns them the medal of honor, of not being scorned women but being the good wife that we all can look up to.
Every women sometimes feel how much pain of being scorned, but the strength of taking the high road is unbelievable.
Scorned or not, being women is a beautiful thing that men could never understand.
