2011 cinema glitters part 1


In a mere moment, we'll be saying au revoir to the year of 2010 and welcome 2011 with open arms. Therefore, for you movie fanatics, pay attention to these movies you should watch out for in the year of 2011:

January 2011

#1 The King's Speech

Who's in it? Colin Firth, Geoffrey Rush, Helena Bonham Carter
What is it about?
The story of King George VI of Britain, his impromptu ascension to the throne and the speech therapist who helped the unsure monarch become worthy of it.

#2. Blue Valentine

Who's in it? Ryan Gosling, Michelle Williams
What is it about? A look at the idyllic past and troubled present of working-class couple Dean (Gosling) and Cindy (Williams)

#3. The Green Hornet

Who's in it? Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz, Cameron Diaz
What is it about?
A newspaper publisher by day and masked crime fighter by night, The Green Hornet and his martial arts expert sidekick, Kato, fight crime while trying to keep their true identities a secret.


#4. No Strings Attached

Who's in it? Ashton Kutcher, Natalie Portman
What is it about?
A comedy centered on casual friends Adam (Kutcher) and Emma (Portman) as they try to keep their relationship strictly physical


#5. Biutiful


Who's in it? Javier Bardem
What is it about?
Uxbal (Bardem) is a dour man but a devoted husband and father who, thanks to his ability to read the minds of the recently deceased, ekes out a living in Barcelona.


#6 From Prada to Nada

Who's in it? Camilla Belle, Alexa Vega
What is it about?
Sense and Sensibility with Latino twist. Two spoiled sisters (Belle and Vega) are left penniless after their father's sudden death, forcing them to move in with their estranged aunt in East Los Angeles.

February 2011

#1. Frankie and Alice

Who's in it? Halle Berry, Stellan Skarsgard
What is it about? A drama centered on a woman with multiple personality disorder (Berry) who struggles to remain her true self and not give in to her racist alter-personality.

#2 Gnomeo and Juliet


Who's in it? James McAvoy, Emily Blunt
What is it about? An animated version of Shakespeare's play, where Gnomeo (voice of McAvoy) and Juliet (voice of Blunt) are would-be lovers from rival garden-based families


#3. I am Number Four


Who's in it? Alex Pettyfer, Dianna Agron, Timothy Olphant
What is it about? Nine alien teens come to Earth after their planet is destroyed by an enemy species. But soon discover that their enemy is now after them on Earth

#4 Unknown

Who's in it? Liam Neeson, Diane Kruger, January Jones
What is it about? Dr. Martin Harris (Neeson) awakens from a coma, only to discover that someone has taken on his identity and that no one -- not even his wife (Jones) -- believes him. With the help of a young woman (Kruger), he sets out to prove who he is

What is it about?
The story of a chameleon with an identity crisis.


#2. The Adjustment Bureau

What is it about? A rising politician (Damon) falls for a ballerina (Blunt), only to be stymied by mysterious forces keeping the would-be lovers apart.


#3. Jane Eyre

What is it about?
A mousy governess who softens the heart of her employer soon discovers that he's hiding a terrible secret.


#4. Red Riding Hood

Set in a medieval village that is haunted by a werewolf, a young girl (Seyfried) falls for an orphaned woodcutter (Haas), much to her family's displeasure

What is it about?
Manhattanite Kyle Kingson (Pettyfer) is young, wealthy, beautiful, and cruel, but he picks the wrong classmate to prank when Kendra (Olsen) casts a spell that turns him into everything he despises. Banished to Brooklyn and informed that the only way to break the curse is to find someone who will love him as he is, a fateful encounter with Lindy (Hudgens), looks to literally and figuratively change his life

#6. Shelter

What is it about? Forensic psychiatrist Cara Harding (Moore) discovers that her new patient, David (Meyers), has multiple personalities -- all of whom are murder victims. Shaking her faith and beliefs, she works to uncover the secret buried deep within David's mind in order to prevent more killings

April 2011

#1. Source Code

Who's in it? Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga, Michelle Monaghan
What is it about?
An experimental government program sends soldier Colter Stevens (Gyllenhaal) back in time, where he wakes up in the body of a commuter who witnesses a train bombing. Presented with just 8 minutes to figure out who is responsible, his mission is further complicated by his feelings for a fellow passenger (Monaghan)

#2. Your Highness

Who's in it? Danny McBride, Natalie Portman, James Franco, Zooey Deschanel
What is it about?
A fantasy-comedy about an arrogant, lazy prince (McBride) who must complete a quest in order to save his father's kingdom


#3. Hanna


Who's in it? Saoirse Ronan, Cate Blanchett, Eric Bana
What is it about?
A 14-year-old girl (Ronan) who was raised by her father to be a cold-hearted killing machine connects with a French family who look to help ease her into a more normal life


#4. Scream 4


Who's in it? Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette
What is it about?
Tentative plot outline: Ten years have passed, and Sidney Prescott (Campbell), who has put herself back together thanks in part to her writing, is visited by the Ghostface Killer


#5. Water For Elephants


Who's in it? Robert Pattinson, Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz
What is it about?
Set during the Great Depression, veterinary student Jacob Jankowski (Pattinson) abandons his studies after his parents are killed in a car accident. Taking up with a third-rate traveling circus, his bond with a difficult animal begins to turn the show around, though his feelings for the star performer (Witherspoon) prove dangerous since she's the wife of the sadistic ringmaster (Waltz)


#6. Fast Five


Who's in it? Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster
What is it about?
A federal agent (Johnson) is dispatched to Rio de Janeiro, where former cop Brian O'Conner (Walker) an ex-con Dom Toretto (Diesel) are assembling a final race as a desperate chance to gain their freedom

What is it about?
Follow a group of high school students as they get ready for their prom

May 2011

#1. Thor

Who's in it? Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman
What is it about? The warrior Thor (Hemsworth) is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin (Hopkins) for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live among humans. Falling in love with scientist Jane Foster (Portman) teaches Thor much-needed lessons, and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces toward Earth

#2. Pirates of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides

What is it about? After crossing paths with a woman from his past (Cruz), Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) is swept aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (McShane), on an unexpected mission to find the elusive fountain of youth

June 2011
#1 Xmen: First Class

Who's in it? James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence What is it about? Charles Xavier (aka Professor X) and Erik Lensherr (aka Magneto) are two young men discovering their powers. Banding together with fellow mutants to stop a threat to the world, a rift grows between the two forces, leading to the founding of Professor X's X-MEN and Magneto's Brotherhood, and the beginning of their eternal war

#2. Beginners

Who's in it? Ewan McGregor, Christopher Plummer, Melanie Laurent
What is it about?
At the age of 75, Hal (Plummer) decides to tell his son, Oliver (McGregor) that he (a) has terminal cancer and (b) is a gay man with a younger lover
